Trend Data from 3 Years of the NS-CSHCN  

Check out the new data trending feature on the Data Resource Center (DRC) website! Now you can compare select outcomes and indicators from the 2001, 2005/06 and 2009/10 National Survey of Children with Special Health Care Needs (NS-CSHCN). Visit our new "Browse Data Trends" webpage. Learn more about comparing  outcomes and indicators across multiple years of the NS-CSHCN.

Access New 2009/10 NS-CSHCN Data on Core Outcomes 

Now online--subcomponent measures for each of the 6 Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB)Systems of Care Core Outcomes for CSHCN have been added on the DRC website. 

Take for example, the following five domains that form Core Outcome #2: CSHCN who receive coordinated, ongoing, comprehensive care within a medical home and for which data on each subcomponent measure are now available. 

  • Medical Home Part A: Usual source(s) for sick and well care. Over a quarter (26.1%) of CSHCN without health insurance did not to have a usual source for sick and well care.
  • Medical Home Part B: Personal doctor or nurse. 95.4% of CSHCN with private health insurance had a personal doctor or nurse versus 91% of CSHCN with public insurance.
  • Medical Home Part C: No problems obtaining referrals. Among CSHCN who needed referrals during the past 12 months, 29.9%of CSHCN with emotional, behavioral or developmental issues had problems obtaining referrals.
  • Medical Home Part D: Receives family-centered care. 72.3% of CSHCN with adequate health insurance received family-centered care compared to 52.0% of CSHCN without adequate insurance.
  • Medical Home Part E: Receives effective care coordination. Only 29.5% of CSHCN with one or more period of inconsistent health insurance coverage received effective care coordination, while 43.6% of CSHCN with consistent health insurance coverage received effective care coordination.
