With the release of data from the 2009/10 National Survey of Children with Special Health Care Needs, data trends are available to compare any indicators from 2001, 2005/06 and 2009/10 that were repeated across multiple years.

In order to compare data across multiple years, the question and response options must be identical. Changes in the overall content of the question, the specific wording of the question or response options can result in changes in overall prevalence and interpretation of the survey item; therefore, comparison across survey years is not available for all 6 MCHB Core Outcomes and 15 Key Indicators.

Trending Across 2001, 2005/06, and 2009/10 NS-CSHCN: This feature is can be accessed directly from any data query page, for which the feature is available. You can also view the Trending pages from the links below. Once on the Trending Page, you can compare all three years of data comparing specific states, subgroups, and All States.

• Outcome #3: CSHCN have adequate public or private insurance
• Indicator 1: CSHCN whose health conditions consistently affect their daily activities
• Indicator 2: CSHCN with 11 or more school absences due to illness, age 5-17 years
• Indicator 3: CSHCN without insurance at some point during the past year
• Indicator 4: Uninsured at the time of survey
• Indicator 5: Currently insured CSHCN whose insurance is inadequate
• Indicator 9: CSHCN without a usual source of care when sick
• Indicator 11: CSHCN without family-centered care
• Indicator 13: CSHCN whose conditions cause financial problems for family

Trending Across 2005/06 and 2009/10 NS-CSHCN: 

• Outcome #2: CSHCN who receive coordinated, ongoing, comprehensive care within a medical home 
• Outcome #6: CSHCN youth receive services needed for transition to adulthood 
• Indicator 7: CSHCN whose families have any unmet need for support services 
• Indicator 8: CSHCN needing a referral who had difficulty getting it 
• Indicator 10: CSHCN without any personal doctor or nurse 
• Indicator 12: CSHCN whose families pay $1,000 or more out-of-pocket 
• Indicator 14: CSHCN whose families spend 11 or more hours a week providing care 
• Indicator 15: CSHCN whose conditions cause family members to cut back or stop working
